Holiday Food

About a week ago, Michael wanted to plan our food for the 4th of July. Mentioned: hot dogs, potato salad, or BBQ something on the grill. I started going through my food magazines to find something different and interesting. Lots of options and choices. Lots of work. Lots of food. Lots of shopping.

As the conversation continued, he made a decision. After all, he is a simple man.

Years ago, Michael's mom made an amazing pot of beans. I have made them many times throughout the years and now she doesn’t even remember making them for us. Since we haven’t had them for a few years, this is what Michael has requested for our 4th of July:

Sliced Kielbasa sausage added to a hot pan of butter, brown sugar and slices of Granny Smith apples, which have cook together until softened. Throw in a huge can of Bush’s Baked Beans. Simmer. Serve. As silly as it sounds, they really are delicious.

So instead of fancy food, we are having beans.
