How Do You Keep Doing it?

That question was asked by Matt Lauer on the Today Show to a young woman who lost her leg in the earthquake in Haiti. She had adjusted her life to the loss of the leg, was walking like a pro and was even planning a marathon.

When he asked the question, this positive woman just didn’t know what to say. She froze. I realized that she had been so focused on living well and re-inventing her life without a leg that she hadn’t looked at it in the bigger picture. The negatives. What she had lost. What she could no longer do.

That is a huge lesson.

The focus should be living the best life we can live and resist the pitfalls of the bigger picture negatives. Stay positive. Stay active in the present and set goals everyday. That is how this woman has adjusted to living well under very difficult circumstances.

Again, a lesson to all of us struggling with tough diagnoses.
