Menu for the Week for Prednisone Users

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
We long-term prednisone users do not process food properly and that is the reason why we gain weight even while eating "healthful" food like fruit and yogurt. It is the sugar in the foods. Because of that, it is best to eat nothing but protein and non-starchy vegetables. That sounds so restrictive but with recipes culled from the Internet and maybe bits of adjustments, the food is quite good and not a lot of work.

The recipes for the week are:

Roasted turkey breast on the bone with a side tossed salad - love the turkey breasts and some of the salads from Trader Joe's.

Asian Beef Salad - http://www.atkins.com/Recipes/Asian-Beef-Salad.aspx

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp - I serve it with a side of shredded cabbage with a bit of low fat Asian dressing from Safeway - http://www.deliciously-thin.com/bacon-wrapped-shrimp-recipe.html

Houston Chicken (Easier Version) - I serve it with a side of small green beans

Beside eating well, daily exercise is so important, even if it is a short walk. Begin slowly. Investigate local pulmonary rehab classes. Add more intensity and duration of your exercise. You will notice that your stamina is so much better and that you are able to do more activities in your daily life. Check with your pulmonologist before beginning but just do it. It will change your life. It will help lift that bit of fog of depression that may be hanging over your head. You can control something in your life when you may feel that the disease has taken over.

Eat well, exercise, sleep and be kind to yourself.
