FOUR YEARS POST-TRANSPLANT

Well, it has been a while since I checked in will you, Dear Reader. It has been a good year, all my tests look great and all the doctors seem happy. Stable.

My weight has continued to go down, I'm a size 6/8 now. Remember when I had to lose over a hundred pounds to be accepted into the transplant program?

I continue to give speeches and love sharing my story with first-year nursing students. In 45-minutes, I can begin at the beginning and finish with current updates and medications. One student was was so taken with my speech that he applied and was hired by the Adult Lung Transplant Clinic after he graduated from the RN program. I was so touched.

Gratitude still continues in my life. I think of the donor, his family and hope the knowledge that many people were gifted with everything that could be donated helps with their grief.

Michael and William? Michael just had cancer surgery and flew through it like a champ. William continues to work in the music industry and is currently "down under." The big news is he is getting married later this year. He found her. Finally. She comes with an amazing family who welcomed William into the fold. We are so happy for them.

My mom. She is 96-years old and one strong cookie. Under hospice, she has just begun to refuse food and we know our time with her is short. I see her often and continue to gather memories. She is blind and filled with dementia from strokes. We are making her as comfortable as possible.

I so hope your journeys are going well. Stay well, Exercise. Eat well. Smile a lot. This extra time is truly a gift.
