We left Atlanta unscathed. We wandered through Alabama and into Mississippi to the capitol of Jackson. Nice city. Not too big. Historic.
I so wish I could post photos because words can not describe our lunch experience yesterday. I searched for a lunch spot in a little town. Michael wanted Creole/Cajun food. There was Seafood Express II. Po' Boys. I read the reviews, which were all positive. What caught my eye was that it was in a gas station. Yes, read that again. With bars on the windows. He had a huge fried oyster and shrimp Po' Boy while I had a small jambalaya and cole slaw. Michael said it was so good that he could have eaten another one. We ate among the boxes in the aisles. The owner came over for a chat. She had been in the country for 12 years and began this store, gas station then the food. It was first hard to understand her because of her unique Vietnamese/southern accent. It was charming. We had a good chat.
In Jackson, we had a fantastic dinner of Ahi tuna for me and fried chicken in honey for Michael. We got the tip to go there from the hotel clerk. Good call.
Back in the car early this morning, we worked our way through the rest of Mississippi, drove across the big river once again, drove through northern Louisiana with a stop at the Duck Dynasty headquarters in West Monroe. All the boys were working, we walked through the gift shop and took lots of photos. While still in Louisiana, we needed lunch and found a famous old place for a muffuletta. Theirs was made on almost cracker-type bread, meats, cheese all served hot. Oops, forgot to mention the secret chopped olives recipe in each sandwich. I had a little, Michael ate 3/4 of it along with a special sweetened tea with ginger and mint. What a find.
Texas. All day tomorrow.
